Gathering Thunder: Recruiting the Best

Recruited directly out of Flight School, two Therian candidates are observed in simulation by Centuri officers and the infamous Captain Mero, leader of a specialist squadron in need of a new pilot. It's down to Oren and his closest rival, an equally skilled and ferocious trainee named Lemna.
Mero watches them closely, placing his trust on his own instincts rather than the computers or the drone hovering over his shoulder. He had once known Oren's father and... his mother. He winces inwardly and pushes the memories aside. He watches for the tell-tale sign that Oren has a Gift that will give his team an edge. He'd prefer Lemna and the cleaner slate, but he knows his preferences don't matter.
