The shape of it is unique, usually Sci-Fi cannons have round barrels, but yours is square.

Yeah, I don't really have a reason. I mean, the cannon is so frickin' massive that maybe a cylindrical tube barrel wouldn't be structurally sound. I wish I knew more about engineering.
