All Sir Ian Ferguson knew was the rolling back of the horse and the endless desert. The adrenaline and energy of the escape from the Outlaw town had long since faded, and his strength was fading fast. It seemed to stretch on for days, weeks, he knew not-- His sense of time had been warped by the miserable prison incarceration. He stopped once or twice at a lonely oasis to drink water, both to quench his thirst and keep him awake. Eventually, the desert changed into grasslands, forests. He would stop and topple to the ground to sleep every so often. The forests and hills continued, until he felt colder and the trees changed. He must be entering Garheim. But the journey was straining his fatigue like a battering ram. Finally, along a road, he saw a town on the horizon. Smoke idly spiraled in sparse strands from a couple of rooftops. Suddenly the world spun, and he slumped sideways off the horse back, losing consciousness as he dropped.
Sir Ian awoke to a strange feeling: a smooth straw-stuffed mattress. It felt alien and odd to him, who had lain on the cold, muddy prison stones for so long. He glanced around him and saw he was in a bed in the corner of a room. A small, smudgy window let in a shaft of light. He wondered how he had arrived here. shortly the door opened and a grey-haired man strode in. His eyes lit up when he noticed that the young knight was awake. "Ah, you have risen!" Sir Ian recalled who this was, a face he had not seen in months- Kvasald, the Jarl of Dunharris. "How did I get here, Kvasald?" he queried. The older man replied:" A couple of farmers found you lying on the road outside the city. Wearing Outlaw armor, I'd like to know how that came about."
"Ah…" Sir Ian sighed, and began the saga of his adventures sign the had left Dunharris in pursuit of the assassin. Kvasald looked with interest and nodded as he heard the tale. When Ian had finished, the Jarl nodded. "A fine tale." The man's face shadowed. "But much has changed since you left. Fishermen have gone missing. Things around the dock are found torn apart. There- There's something…in the bay."
