With the Centuri doing battle with Imperial ships in orbit, Field Commanders on the "ground" on Sequa were hastily trying to expand the network of causeways and platforms that less aquatic-inclined species of the Empire utilized to live on the planet. Sequa had long been something of a backwater vacation and estate world for the Terrans, meaning it had little in the way of planetary defenses. On top of that, its population of Sequai aliens were difficult to read and considered borderline seditious at the best of times. It was easy to see why the Centuri chose this world to invade first.
This Commander just wished he had been posted somewhere else. Especially when noting the two Sequai engineers attached to his unit. He looked into their gelatinous green eyes and saw nothing he understood as emotion. If they were planning to betray his men to the Centuri, he'd never know until it was already happening. Unfortunately, he had to rely on them as the Sequai were the only ones who knew where it was safe and shallow enough to bother building infrastructure. He had to get those AA guns assembled and ready before the Centuri started dropping their own prefabs to begin their invasion in earnest.
Unfortunately for the Imperials, special missions had already been assigned to shock units like Mero's. Oren piloted a "Chubby Chicken", a venerable Centuri transport ship toward where the Imperials were setting up. He entered a command and the blast doors on the flank of the ship folded open, ready to go for an imminent fire mission. At all costs, Mero and his unit had to prevent AA guns in this sector from being activated.
Inside the ship, the team prepped weapons and said prayers to whatever Gods or Spirits they held dear. It was about to get rough out there.
Mero and Echo were on point and would be the first out the doors. They saw the Imperials before the Imperials saw them...
...but they caught on pretty fast.
Fortunately for Oren, the small arms toted by the Imps would not penetrate the dense hull of his Chubby Chicken. Unfortunately, his team would be vulnerable until he got them close enough to that platform to fire back. This was his first live mission with the team and he knew he had no room for error. They were counting on him. For a moment, his mind flashed to Lemna. She had been counting on him too, and this time no one would get hurt on his watch.
