When last we left off with Oren, he had visited Lemna in the hospital to let her know he'd be accepting the position of pilot for Mero's specialist squad...
Mero introduces Oren to the team. From left:
Helva, a tough-as-nails Terran cyborg and heavy weapons specialist.
Echo, a spunky Therian technical officer who doubles as a combat medic.
Rhesus, a particularly grumpy Therian who is the team's scout and marksman.
They're all glad to see him, but there's also a tinge of sorrow as Oren's assignment to them symbolizes the completion of the process of letting go of their previous pilot, who died in action against pirates.

After some small talk, everybody returns to what they would be doing anyway. Mero tells Oren where he can store is stuff. He stores Oren's sidearm in the squad's weapons locker.

He'll be taking the top bunk. He thinks about whether to remove the poster his predecessor had pinned to the wall. Maybe it should stay up, in honor of the person who'd occupied this space before him.

Helva hits the heavy bag. She's always training, trying to stay in peak condition. Her cybernetic enhancements make her feel like she needs to sweat to remember she's still human. She has some baggage, no pun intended.

Echo and Rhesus play videogames. Rhesus is stubborn and refuses to admit Echo is just one step ahead of him on stuff like this. Echo gloats when she wins, enjoying the tantrums the otherwise taciturn Rhesus throws. They have a tendency to spend way too much of their downtime on things like this. Sometimes Mero wants to cut their table and their game consoles into little pieces with his plasma blade.
Oren looks around. If this is his new home, these people are his new family. He wonders what Lemna would make of them.
