Struggle for Klegon Armada Challenge
Please Note: You may start posting entries, but we're still working on getting inspiration pictures for everything. Thanks, and enjoy! - The SfK Team.
Welcome to the Armada Challenge! The AC is a fun way to practice your building skills, earn points of you and your faction, and help to flesh out your faction's military. The Armada Challenge is constant, with no winners or deadline, that anyone with 12 points or more can participate in.
Rules:
- To participate in the Armada Challenge, you must have 12 Personal Points.
- You may submit up to 2 submissions a month.
- Each submission is worth 2 Personal Points. Additionally, every month each faction's FO or FA who is in charge of the faction's armada will count all the approved submissions and for every approved submission and convert each one into 2 Faction Points. So this is a fantastic way to help get your faction ahead when there's no GC or anything on.
- Your faction's armada should be a display of your faction's best work. Please do not submit sloppy, thrown together creations, stolen work, or official sets. Your AC MOCs should be original MOCs that you are proud of. To enforce this, at each monthly point-counting, the FA or FO in charge of the armada will check every application and need to approve it before it becomes part of the faction armada. If your MOC is not approved, feel free to shoot a PM to your friendly FO or FA, who would love to help you improve your MOC with constructive critique so you can get it approved.
- As always, no clone brands are allowed. This forum is about LEGO. 3rd party pieces such as Brickarms, Brickwarriors, etc are fine.
- If you would like to apply a build for another faction's armada, please mark it with "(FS)" (Foreign Submission) so the other faction's leaderships will know not to count it for points. So unless you want to earn points for another faction, always mark it with (FS)! Example: Armada: Centuri Conglomeration (FS)
- Only military vehicles are allowed. Scientific, research, exploration, private, commercial transport, etc. should be free-builds.
- To provide some technical info on the ship to those interested, please note the info requirements under each info heading. If you are having trouble with coming up with some of this stuff, PM crazycrownieguy, our expert in this field, and he'll give you some help.
- An AC entry may be a vehicle featured in a GC or FC entry, but cannot be the entry itself. If you built a really cool ship as an entry to another SfK challenge, you can rework it a bit then re-submit it as an AC entry. But if said vehicle is included in the entry, ( a starship in a hangar or a robot guarding a laser gate) then you're good to go.
- If you'd like to submit a vehicle you've already built in the past, you may, just make sure it was for SfK.
- Any questions can be asked in the FAQ thread or the suggestion thread!
- Each faction will have an Armada Thread to display their armada. This thread is for submissions, not display.
- Your submission post should follow this format: Armada( Centuri Conglomeration, Terran Empire, Nova League), Vehicle Type ( Mech, Starship, Robot, etc.), Vehicle Class (What sub-category?), Vehicle Info (Want to give some background info on how this vehicle is used, it's popularity, etc.?), Required Info (Fill out the required info for that vehicle type),d ate of construction(Not when the particular unit in your picture was, this is when the design was first mass-produced). If you have trouble understanding this, you can see the example post below.
- Because there are many different types of Military Vehicles, there are also many categories to classify your submission. Each entry should fit into one of these:
Categories:
Mechs: A Mech is an armored, robotic vehicle with at least 2 legs, that seats 1 or more pilots.
Required Info: Height, armament, armor, max crew, speed, designation ("P-334 Spitting Cobra", for example, that type of thing).
Exo suits - The smallest of Mech-classified weaponry, Exo suits can be as small as a few mechanical limb attachments to a soldier's body. Exo suits should have minimal armor plating, leaving most mechanical parts exposed, and the pilot's body should be exposed, at minimum the head. Minimal weaponry, i.e., 1 or 2 MGs. Exo suits are usually humanoid.
Hardsuits - Same as an Exo suit, but the pilot is typically completely or mostly enclosed and the suit generally has slightly more armor plating than an Exo suit.
Scout Mechs - Scout Mechs are the next level up. They should have a minimal to fair amount of armor plating, and do not necessarily have a humanoid shape. With more size comes more weaponry hard points, too.
Mid Mechs - An average Mech is a mid Mech. Mid mechs typically can have large amounts of armor plating and a fair-sized array of weaponry. Often has 2 pilots, occasionally more.
Large Mech - Big, bad, weapon platforms on legs. Heavy Mechs are usually the largest Mechs to be seen in a battlefield. Sometimes has enough room to store a hard suit or Exo suit inside. Can have large amounts of weaponry and armor plating.
Heavy Mech - Massive machines that can crush buildings. These rarely seen and are usually astronomically expensive to produce. Typically only used for very large scale assaults. Mech version of a SHIP.
Robots: A robot is a machine, typically mobile, that is controlled by and programmed with Artificial Intelligence. Can range from humanoid fighters to floating drones. Robots do not have pilots.
Required Info: Equipment, specialty(main task. What does this drone do? E.g. melee fighting, reconnaissance, surgery, long-range sniping).
MCD - Mobile Combat Drone is a blanket term for any largish robot designed specifically for combat. MCDs typically have legs and often are fitted with cannons or have the ability to carry and operate weapons.
Hovering Drone - Hovering drones are usually smaller than the humanoids, and rely on repulsorlifts to hover in the air. Hovering drones usually have advanced sensors to pick up data and are often used for espionage or reconnaissance. Hovering drones can have very minimal weaponry.
Medical Bot - Medical Bots are robots designed specifically for medical care of wounded soldiers. They are typically humanoid are programmed with an array of medical procedures.
Cargo Bot - Cargo Bots are robots designed for transporting equipment for soldiers. No particular specifications.
Turrets: Turrets are large-caliber non-handheld guns that are not independently mobile and are designed to be operated by a soldier.
Required Info: Type of gun.
Gun Emplacement - A turret, typically shielded, that has space for a gunner to operate it and is mounted on the ground. Usually swivels to adjust aim.
Vehicle Turret - A turret designed to be mounted on a vehicle, whether it be a gunship, Mech, or APC.
Starships: Starships are flying vehicles that operate in space. Sometimes have the ability to transfer and operate equally well in planetary atmosphere. (Special thanks to Crazycrownieguy for his hard work on this section!)
Required Info: Length, standard crew number, engines, armament, atmospheric ability (Does it only fly in space or can it go into a planet's atmosphere?), date of construction, cloak( does it have anti-scanner tech?)
Starfighter:
Example image: *
Info: 1-2 person crew, think x-wings from SW, viper from BSG. Starfighters are usually loaded with a good deal of weaponry, minimal shields, and only short range engines. They are completely dependent on larger carrier ships.
Interceptor:
Example image: *
Info: 2-6 person crew, think raptors from BSG, runabouts from ST, the rogue shadow from SW. Interceptors are generally bigger and faster than starfighters, not as heavily armed, but fairly independent, and will usually have some sort of shield system.
Escort
Corvette:
Example image: *
Info: 5-25 person crew, think the tantive IV from SW. Corvettes are big enough to be fully independent. Generally you will find them only among other ships, acting as escorts. In some cases they’re used as solo scouting craft.
Frigate:
Example image: *
Info: 10-40 person crew, think the forward unto dawn or the savannah from Halo. Frigates are generally larger than corvettes, and are really only useful as escorts, though you will occasionally find them serving roles in border and planetary defense.
Cruiser:
Example image: *
Info: 18-50 person crew, think daedalus from SG. Cruisers are the backbone of any assault fleet, or any large installation. They are large enough to have a reasonable armement, but small enough to out maneuver larger ships.
Destroyer:
Example image: *
Info: 25-80 person crew, think star destroyer from SW. Destroyers are the true guns of any fleet. Useful as the heavy firepower of a small fleet, or as support fire in larger fleets. Though they are not as maneuverable as other escort classes, their firepower makes up for it.
Capitol
Carrier:
Example image: *
Info: 35-100 person crew, think the acclamator class star destroyer from SW. Carriers are exactly what they sound like, their primary function is to carry swarms of fighters, or maybe even a corvette or two. Common armaments include heavy point defense, but generally no ship-ship weaponry. You will usually find a carrier among several escorts.
Fast Battleship:
Example image: *
info: 40-120 person crew, think the battlestar pegasus from BSG. FBs are generally the fastest class of capital ship- in any given fleet, they have comparable weaponry to a normal battleship. generally have weak armour, sacrificing it for bigger engines.
Battleship:
Example image: *
info: 40-120 person crew, think the battlestar galactica from BSG. Generally seen as the model capitol ship, battleships are heavily armed and armoured. And will often be seen in really any fleet big enough to support them, their maneuverability is less than satisfactory, but they make up for it in sheer destructive force.
Battlecruiser:
Example image: *
Info: 60-200 person crew, think the basestars from BSG. The poor man’s dreadnaught. Battlecruisers are considerably larger, and far more heavily armed than their smaller cousin the battleship. they generally serve as flagships, or heavy support to larger fleets.
Dreadnaught:
Example image: *
Info: 100+ person crew, think the SSS from SW. The dreadnaught, most likely the biggest ship in any system fleet. Dreadnaughts are more akin to space stations than an actual ship, while being extremely hard to maneuver, dreadnaughts make up for it in their massive arsenal, and nearly impenetrable armour. These ships are so huge and so well armed, if they were more maneuverable, you wouldn’t need the huge supporting fleet backing it up. Due to the sheer size, these ships are extremely rare, and you would be unlikely to see more than one in a 10 LY radius.
Wheeled Vehicles: Wheeled vehicles are ground vehicles that rely on tires for transportation. Basically cars, or for our purposes, beefed-up cars.
Required Info: Top speed, max occupancy
APC - Armored Personnel Carrier. Larger than civilian vehicles, APCs are well armored and usually have a good capacity for transporting soldiers. Often has a hard point for a turret.
Cargo Transport - For transporting equipment, supplies, and sometimes troops. Usually bigger than civilian vehicles.
Light Transport - Like an APC, but smaller and less armor. Still slightly more heavy-duty than a civilian vehicle.
Tanks: Tanks are armored ground vehicles that have no wheels and are heavily armed, relying on repulsorlifts or treads. Usually has several crew members, and are bigger than most wheeled vehicles.
Required Info: Length, standard crew, armament, armor, top speed.
Hovering Tank - A tank that relies on bottom repulsorlifts to hover above the ground. Usually more prone to varying terrain.
Tracked Tank - A tank that relies on heavy-duty treads or tracks to move. Can handle bumpy terrain better than a hovering tank, but usually slower.
Air Vehicles: Air vehicles are flying vehicles than stay in the atmosphere and typically have no space travel capability.
Required Info: Armament, top speed, max occupancy, engines.
Gunships - A larger, slower ship, usually heavily armed and with a large passenger occupancy. Think a futuristic version of an attack helicopter.
Jets - Fighter jets, basically, but more futuristic. More streamlined than star fighters.
Shuttles - A larger, less heavily armed craft mainly for transport. Often has the ability to enter space for brief periods to deliver passengers to cruisers and space stations.
VTOLs - Vertical Take Off and Landing craft are usually around the same size as jets, but have rotatable engines to allow for take-off without a runway.
